CSU offers a course to upper-division majors in science, math, and engineering in which they write to non-technical readers. In this course, students work with a site partner who needs specific science or technical materials for a non-expert audience, (see our What is "writing about science"? page for more about this type of writing and this audience). As a class, the students spend the first part of the semester looking closely at effective techniques for writing about science to non-technical readers and establishing strategies for working with site partners. Then the rest of the semester takes up writing for a designated site partner.
