Students:

In this course you have the unique opportunity to synthesize your scientific knowledge with the rhetorical practice of writing to compose documents for a non-expert audience. This course partners you with working scientists and scientific organizations to relay scientific information to people who are not specialists. We hope that these partnerships spark further interest in your major and expose you to audiences and organizations that share your interest in science. Yet, moving beyond the classroom to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting requires you to shift your thinking about course requirements, assignments, and deadlines. The site partners would not have agreed to participate with this project if they believed our students could not offer a valuable service to their mission and research. You should have similar expectations of yourself. Therefore we put together some tips to help you successfully negotiate classroom and site partner expectations.
